Comprehensive IUD Placement Training (6 CME credits)

This training is designed for both new and experienced providers who want to build or refine their skills in IUD placement and removal. The agenda covers patient counseling and consent, method selection, instrument use, and step-by-step instruction for all U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved IUDs.

Participants will receive hands-on practice with pelvic models and computer simulators under the guidance of family planning experts. Advanced topics include managing side effects, pain control, troubleshooting difficult placements, and creating clinic flow for same-day IUD services.

The training is offered in collaboration with Bayer (Mirena®, Kyleena®, Skyla®), Medicines360/AbbVie (LILETTA®), and CooperSurgical (Paragard®).

  • Meet Family PACT requirements for onsite LARC services*
  • Manage common complications and provide follow-up care

*Family PACT LARC Policy:
Each provider site enrolling into the Family PACT Program must identify, at a minimum, one practitioner trained to provide LARC services onsite. • Certified Nurse Practitioners
  • Certified Nurse Midwives

Only licensed personnel with family planning skills, knowledge, and competency may provide medical services under Family PACT in accordance with California Welfare and Institutions Code (W&I Code) Section 24005, subdivision (b).

Disclaimer:
While this training includes "hands-on" placement techniques using plastic pelvic models and computer simulators, clinicians who need additional practice should utilize an experienced preceptor to proctor IUD placement procedures with patients. The Office of Family Planning (OFP) does not coordinate or cover the cost of preceptor arrangements.
